Being a yogi is, in some ways, like being a child again. You notice things most adults overlook, regain that sense of adventure and allow yourself to be engrossed in anything until you are fully satisfied. You ask questions until you understand. You are not ashamed to need help or a hand to hold. Without condition, you love, trust and share.

I hope at least one thing I share here rekindles your sense of wonder. Love and light -Nessybug

Blissful Christmas Tip - December 19: Write a list of ten things that really scare you. What has happened to you throughout your life that makes you replace love with fear? Look within. In what situations do you find yourself “re”-acting (responding to a situation in a certain way because of the conditioning of your past), as opposed to acting from the perspective of the here and now? You are like an onion. You are born this perfect, luminous being of pure love… This is your core. As you grow, things happen in your life - pain comes. Little things, big things. Someone picks on you in kindergarten. Your mom gets upset because you broke something. You get lost at the supermarket and for a moment, you’re all alone. You fall in love and get your heart broken. Parents divorce. A person you love gets sick. A person you love dies. All these things stay with us. It’s a part of life; pain and growth and learning - we need this. At the time we might not feel it but we do. It’s unpleasant, it hurts, and instead of accepting the present as it is and moving through it we decide we don’t want to feel this way ever again. And you know what? This is how we create fear. Fear of experiencing that same pain. Fear of getting hurt. Fear of the unknown. So you layer your core with a thin layer of protection. Ways to shield yourself from life’s uncertainties. Just a thin layer. And then another. And another. Suddenly, you are an onion! Layers and layers covering your core. And it might feel as if these layers are protecting you, but they are in fact keeping you away from who you really are. You are a luminous being of pure love, and you are taken care of. You don’t need fear to protect you from life! You need love. You need light. You need what’s at your very core. We all have our stories, and comforting as they may be, it’s time to let go. If you want to live life to it’s fullest potential, you have to! Start peeling those layers off, one by one. Write a list of the ten things that scare you the most. Begin taking active steps to overcome them. Make 2013 a fearless year! Don’t move where fear wants you to move. Move with love. With light. Close your eyes and look within.

I respect and adore this beautiful yogini soo much! This tip really resonates with me and I know everyone can take a little something from it as well. Love and light,V

Bliss

I had the opportunity to teach a yoga class at a local CrossFit last night, and it was glorious! I love yoga so much and sharing it with new yogis is the most rewarding experience I know. I loved the positive reactions and feedback, as well as the sincere desire for more! It was such a wonderful class with tons of great energy and I cannot wait to do it again soon!

Healthy Shmealthy :)

I have been experimenting a lot with paleo recipes for the past couple of weeks- incorporating various new veggies and spices. My boyfriend and the fam love my cooking, especially when it includes tons of butter and they would absolutely kill for my infamous sweet treats! However, I have been introducing more healthy meals recently, and am delighted by the feedback.

This week I made a couple of curry dishes with coconut milk and tons of vegetables. I was a little apprehensive because I love curry, but that generally is not the case for everyone. My chicken curry with broccoli and sweet potato was a big hit though, as was my curried butternut squash with kale and bell pepper. For our breakfasts I have been using sweet potato as a substitute for white potato home fries, and I have made very fast friends with coconut oil. And the best part is that everyone seems to be enjoying the flavors and feeling of well being that accompanies eating a healthy meal. Some other successful dishes: beef roast with yams and broccoli, smoked paprika chicken with roasted acorn squash and slow-cooked spicy short ribs with asparagus. The honey loves the creative dishes and appreciates all the hearty meals :)

I try to be mostly paleo, but I am not being too strict about it because with me that usually leads to disordered eating. I have, however, pretty much eliminated refined sugar and do not find myself craving it like I thought I would (I have the WORST sweet tooth). Fruit and natural sugars have been keeping us all very satisfied even while being surrounded by holiday treats! It is definitely empowering to be innovative with my cooking and to be in control of what is going into my body. I love the healthy glow my skin has and how much money I have saved by not going to the local coffee shop every day! Just as I love to empower my students through asana, I adore sharing my culinary joy, so I will be posting some of my own recipes and photos on here soon! Hope you all enjoy!

The new “Footloose” is pretty awful, but the scene where Julianne Hough gets her line dance on is AWESOME! Loves me some country :]
